Sincere appreciation for your cooperation
On behalf of the Congress Planning Committee, it greatly appreciate you for your contribution to the First Research Conference of the World Society of Disaster Nursing held under the title “Disaster Knows No Borders: Human Bonding” at Kobe International Conference Center on the 9th and 10th of January 2010.
With your support, approximately 400 participants from 14 countries attended the conference. Practical reports and research results from each country were given at the conference. The presenters and participants shared lessons from disasters around the globe and actively exchanged their opinions about the expected roles of nurses. Many opinions were aired concerning enhanced systems against disasters and the importance of building a network for preparedness and disaster reduction through these exchanges.
In the Open Forum of the conference, the need to work together with citizens and professionals was discussed to create a community to address disaster prevention and reduction. This is especially meaningful as Kobe marks fifteen years since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. The experiences over the two days made all of the participants reaffirm their roles in times of disaster as professionals and as citizens.
The Second Conference of World Society of Disaster Nursing is scheduled for 2012 and the chair will be Professor Donna Mead of the University of Glamorgan, UK.
Looking forward to working with you and meeting again in Glamorgan.
